AlphaTrack and Image Line’s ‘FL Studio 8’

FL Studio, by Image-Line software, the premier application for building and editing loop-based audio material, has raised the bar yet again. Now with the release of FL Studio 8, Image Line introduces support for AlphaTrack, the compact DAW controller that delivers performance without a breaking the bank. AlphaTrack has quickly become an indispensable addition in home and professional studios alike.

With AlphaTrack you can select and manage patterns, tracks, and channels. Control most knobs and faders on the FL Studio mixer, including EQ and Send level settings. Set loop regions, or move a window forward with the touch of a button. Program up to 6 specific knob controls of your own if you like, or use the unique Scroll Strip to shuttle through your project. Of course, the basic 5-button transport control and track Rec, Mute and Solo are there if you just want to play a song.

‘Native Mode’ support of AlphaTrack in FL Studio 8 is accomplished through a special control surface profile built right in to the application. Enable AlphaTrack as your Input/Output MIDI port, and controller type, click the Enable box on the MIDI Settings panel, then just check Enable MIDI Remote Control and Enable MIDI Output under the main Options and you are ready to go.

FLStudio Setup

The Frontier Design Group website includes two PDF documents created specifically for FL Studio 8 users. The first, FL Studio 8 and AlphaTrack, contains detailed instructions for configuring the AlphaTrack for use with FL Studio 8. A reference chart listing the full set of controls for FL Studio 8 can be found in this useful document.

The second file, FL Studio 8 Layout, is a single page picture of the AlphaTrack with overlaid text summarizing the feature set. It may be helpful to print this file and have it handy as a quick reference guide.
