Topic: iShred Live with GuitarConnect cable Not Working!

Just got my Griffin GuitarConnect cable in the post today! :) However it doesn't work with iShred Live! :( I get no signal registering on the meter at the bottom and therefore no audio out, other that the sfx when clicking on buttons etc.

I've tested it with 3 other apps (Amplitube, Voice Memos and Amps & Cabs) and it works perfectly with those. I'm using iOS 4 on an iPod Touch 3rd Gen, not jailbroken.

Any suggestions?

Hi nizy,
Here's one quick test: does iShred LIVE work using a headset with mic? All apps that take external audio input should. Also, make sure that the GuitarConnect cable is fully plugged in. I suspect that this isn't a problem in this case since the cable works with other apps, but we've seen this issue several times. Finally, have you tried a full power cycle? (Not just a sleep/wake cycle.) You would be surprised how many issues, especially after a new download, we have seen be fixed by doing this.

After trying the app again today, it just worked. I did reboot the device due to running out of power so maybe that's what did it. Thanks.

I exchanged the Griffin cable for a new cable and I still have no "external audio input" with my iPhone 4. It is the app that needs to be tweaked. There must be a glitch. I get the same bizarre problems after a hard reset of the phone (voice control and fast skipping itunes songs). I've rebooted the phone. I've deleted and reinstalled the app. It's just not working. I've tried three guitars. Help.

A couple of questions:
- does iShred LIVE work with your headset mic?
- does the Griffin cable work with the Voice Memo app?

If it's the case that the mic works but the cable doesn't it could be a problem with the cable plug. We've had a few iPhones (3GS and 4) where lint got built up in the headset jack. It didn't seem to bother the headset but gave intermittent connections with the Griffin cable. A quick blast of canned air fixed the problem. I also have an iPhone 4 case that's just a bit too small at the headset opening for the Griffin cable to work.

If the mic doesn't work with iShred LIVE, but both the mic & cable work with the Voice Memo app then something is seriously messed up with the system. One of our devices wasn't working right with an app: power cycle, app delete & reinstall didn't help. Ended up going into the General:Reset section and doing a reset all settings (be sure to backup and sync before hand) and then all was right again.

Let us know what you find and we'll try to figure it out.

I did everything you suggested, including a complete reset/restore and reloading of the iPhone and program, checked wires with voice recorder and headphones, etc; and it still doesn't work with the iPhone 4. Thanks.

You say you tried things, but didn't say what happened.

Are you getting audio in the voice recorder from the headset and the griffin cable?

Are you not getting audio in iShred LIVE from the headset?

We had this problem with an iPhone 4 where there was no trouble with an iPhone 3. It was driving us crazy; intermittent "voice control" activation and who knows what.

We eventually worked out that the jack is a fraction of a millimeter too long for the socket. Using a shim to hold it out did the trick. We experimented using two sheets of paper initially so the difference is really small, but just visible against an Apple mic/headset jack. Our permanent solution is a really small plastic washer of the right size.
