Topic: Feedback

Got some great idea for future effects or features in iShred LIVE? Or is there a bug that's bugging you? Here's the place to post all of your suggestions and feedback.

Re: Feedback

I'm trying to use iShred with several electric and acoustic guitars and a Guitarbud lead and can get nothing. Voice memos records the guitars OK and my iStroboSoft tuner hears the guitars OK. I get nothing out of iShred though. What am I doing wrong or is there a problem with the iPhone4 or iPad that I am trying the app with?

Re: Feedback

Hi Pepperm,

A few things to check out. First off not all cables are created equal. Some are simply straight wire connections, which will sometimes work and sometimes not, depending if the iPhone/iPod touch is detecting it as a microphone. This is also somewhat dependent on the resistance of your guitar: we've had some guitars which wouldn't work with a straight cable at all and others that worked intermittently. The thing that will throw you off is that even if the cable is NOT detected as a mic, some apps will still use the iPhone's internal mic and look like they are working (albeit lower levels, etc..) You can test this quickly: plug in the cable/guitar, fire up the recorder,  hit a note on the guitar then move the iPhone/iPod further away and hit the same not to see if you get the same level.

The Griffin Technology GuitarConnect cable has additional components to properly trigger the iPhone's external microphone detection circuitry. iShred LIVE configures itself to use the external microphone, not the internal. So if your cable isn't being detected as an external headset (with mic) you won't get any audio.

Re: Feedback

Yes, it's iShred Live and yes just a straight through cable. How do you get (electricaly) a cable to be detected as a mic? Is a resistance or capacitance needed acress the connections?

Re: Feedback

Pepperm, I have one other idea that you might try. Like fargo/Jerry says, not all cables are created equal. I'm guessing that you have your guitar's volume knob set to 10. If so, try some other settings and then plug-in your Guitarbud cable. That may well get you running, at least for a bit ... until you can get your hands on a GuitarConnect cable and leave the hassle behind.  :-)

Re: Feedback

I have ordered an iRig cable but can't find a stockest of the GuitarConnect cable here in the UK. Any suggestions for a supplier or what is in the GuitarConnect cable that is si magical?

Re: Feedback

I don't know the stocking details for the GuitarConnect cable in the UK, but you might check some of the UK dealers listed at the bottom of this page:

I do know that units only recently became available in the US.

Re: Feedback

How about a 1/2 speed slow down to go with the looper?

Re: Feedback

I would like to see a 'pay one price' registration and get all effects (and future additions?) included.

Re: Feedback

Just received my Griffin cable and started to evaluate the cable and your app.

The app needs an input level adjust separate from the music level.  Two reasons, one - not all guitar pickups have level output adjustment (bridge pickup on my D-35), two - I tried my electric, turned the volume all the way up and it was just barely clipping (red led on your meter), but I could barely hear the guitar over the audio file (song).  I could no play loud enougn to trigger the tuner,  App volume control affects both, there needs to be separate level adjust (trim/boost).

I also think we need more than the song file, my thought on this...
Consider, using the folder structure for the songs, I like to sequence my songs for each set and have different set list for different venues.
I would have custom set lists in individual folders.

Re: Feedback

Thanks, Fred.

We are planning a separate level control in the next update.

Not sure if I follow your folder idea. Right now there's 48 presets and they are arranged in "pages." Are you thinking some way to have any number of presets in a folder? And then some number of folders?

Re: Feedback

Thanks for the reply on the level trim/boost controls.

I'm looking forward to the update.

Please, disregard my second item, on folders.  All I needed to do was look at the bottom of the iPod display and select "playlist." duh.

Re: Feedback

Recently updated to v1.1.1 on my iPad and now when I try to save a preset, the screen dims like it did before when saving presets but then just locks up. I can quit the app and go right back in but the new preset is not saved. Any ideas?

Re: Feedback

Are you getting the save menu after you press a preset for a second or so?

Also, what device are you running and which OS? I know it shouldn't make any difference but have you tried a power cycle (hold power button until you see the "slide to power off" slider and slide it off)?

Let me know of anything else that might be related or are seeing and we'll try to repo here.
