Topic: Requesting Midi out and chord progression sequencer

Was playing around with both guitar and iShred and got to thinking that these two things would make this thing imminently more awesome than they already are.

1) Would it be possible to incorporate some way of sending out midi control messages (either through the hardware midi interface that i think is being put out by Line6 or via WiFi) using these interfaces - would add a whole new level of flexibility and integration to someone working with a DAW.

2) Was also wondering if there could ever be some sort of Chord sequencer where one could set up an automatic progression of chords on something like a timeline or tempo synched grid that could either be linear or looped and that way one could simply focus on the "string" portion of the interface for strumming / fingerpicking. Was messing around with Canon in D and got to thinking how cool it would be to be able to set the chords looping and then just improvise the heck out of eaith loop.

The more I think about it... I'd be willing to even pay for upgrade such as these but would bow down in humble gratitude if they could be found a way to implemented.

Thanks to the developers for working so hard on putting out something that is honestly quite amazing.

Re: Requesting Midi out and chord progression sequencer

Hey Eric,

Much thanks for the input. We do listen to and ponder all of it.

1) The WiFi variant of this is something we have seriously considered. Actually, we have a lot (but not all) of the code guts for this from some other work we have done. Just to make sure I've got it straight: You would like to be able to a MIDI version of your iShred and/or Guitar performance live into a DAW running on your computer, right?

2) This might be the first time I've heard a request for something like this, externally or internally to Frontier Design Group. So you would like to jam along to a chord progress without worrying about pushing the correct chord buttons, right? Offhand, I don't think this would be near the top of our to-do list unless we hear an outpouring of desire for this. Still, things change ... you never know.

Re: Requesting Midi out and chord progression sequencer

Thanks for the quick response.

It's awesome to hear that you're already working the midi piece out. As I've been noodling with these it struck me how naturally it would fit to have this interface be a really powerful midi device similar to the yamaha or Starr labs guitar midi controllers.

Re: Requesting Midi out and chord progression sequencer

As for that#2 request... It comes from a notion based out of a program like Band in a Box where one can indicate chord changes at specific measures in the piece. Something like this would allow us to set up the chords sequence in a piece... Hit play and then focus on the playing exclusively... And since I'm dreaming here... To add perhaps some realtime controls for this mode with things like mutes, mute strums, slides and the like... Like I said just dreaming bit

Dreaming never hurts ... unless you're in the movie Inception, that is.  :-)

Re: Requesting Midi out and chord progression sequencer

I've also been thinking about a midi controller idea, but more along the lines of a cabled connection to you audio interface, the same way you would plug in a real guitar. Then again, maybe you could simply connect via usb to your computer?
How soon would this be possible? I can't wait :-)

Just a question, though: If you could use your iphone/ipad as a midi controller with ishred/guitar, would you then be able to play it with sounds from your DAW or plugins? I'm thinking, for example,of garageband's guitar effects, amps, etc. Or even other virtual instruments.
WOW...That would be AMAZING!!
